Sue Beatty -Director of Research and Development

Susan E Beatty, MD, FCCP is a retired Pulmonologist/Critical Care Specialist who moved to Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia in 2003 with her husband Richard (Dick). She earned her undergraduate degree from Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA. and medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA.  Her internal medicine residency, chief medical residency, and pulmonary fellowship were at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.

Following 15 years of pulmonary/internal medicine private practice in the Philadelphia area she became a senior medical director at Astrazeneca Pharmaceutical LP working in clinical research, drug development and clinical trial design. Upon the move to Virginia she then resumed consulting to AstraZeneca and other companies including Genentech. Since retiring in 2016 Sue has been busy volunteering while also enjoying the friendships and pleasures of the lake.  Her hobbies include gardening, golf, bridge and water activities.  Sue and Dick, have 2 married sons, 2 wonderful daughters in law and 5 grandchildren.

Sue has been a pillar in the leadership team of Hope to Walk, currently holding the position of Director of Research and Development and taking lead on multiple ongoing projects.  We are glad to have Sue and Dick as part of the Hope to Walk family.
