Project Description

Betsabe has such a warm spirit.  She was 54 when she lost her right leg in 2014 as a result of a foot infection secondary to her diabetes.  As often is the case, she was unaware of the consequences of what a small wound on her foot could turn into, until she had to go to the hospital to have it amputated.  She was left with little to no hope of being able to afford a $2,000-3,000 leg, which is the normal price of a prosthetic leg in Honduras.

We met her one day at the clinic when she was brought in a wheelchair by her daughter.  We did not know if she would be able to use a prosthetic leg at first, but as it is with many of our patients in Honduras – her determination was astounding.  When given her leg in May of 2015, she stood up and began walking and she has been consistent with her follow up care since that time. She is continuing to do well and is now able to do more with her daughter and granddaughter – such as dancing in the video belo
